On the 10th of August our whole school went to Shanty Town for the day to learn about toy that we use to play with in the 17th, 18th and 20th (now) century. When we got off the bus at Shantytown we all lined up, the lady asked where are the year 8’s so we put our hands up and I said “ I’m the oldest” then she told me to go to the back and make sure no one was left behind. The youngest went first inside and then followed by the oldest, when we walked through the shop we had to walk across the train tracks and walk down a trail to get to these rooms where we dumped our school bags and walked into another room where there were tables with toys and a timeline behind them, there were dolls, toy cars, hop and stick, knuckle bones and more. We all sat down in lines and talked about toys that kids played with in the 17th century and then we build up to now 2016 and we talked about toys that our parents use to play with. Once we finished talking the little kids went to do parla games and we went to the town, the year 8’s lined up in four different sections and people joined our groups to do activities in for the day. I was in a group with Liam W, Caitlin S, Amiee L, Morgan B and William C, our name was the High Rollers. Our starting game was with hoop and stick where you would have a hula hoop and a stick and you had to whack the hula hoop with the stick to make it roll so you can win the race, then we moved to horseshoes, there were two types of horseshoes to throw, heavy ones which has really easy to get 2 points and then there were small horseshoes which was quite hard to get points because of how small they were. If you missed the pole you got no points, if you got near the pole you got 1 point, if you hit the pole you got 2 and of you got the horseshoe around the pole you got 3 points. The scores were me with 17 points, Liam W with 15, William C with 14 and Caitlin S and Amiee L got a tie with 3. Next we went to the stilts, we all first tried balancing on the small but I had a little go and then went straight for the stilts I got 11 steps with the big stilts and then we left to do jump rope. We did teddy bear while jumping and then just normal jumping, I got 24 jumps and then I jumped out. We walked back to the place and talked about the activities that we will be doing next. Before the activities there were two options to do. They were go in a room to look at trains or to go look at dolls, I took the train room. For the last activities we did find the golden nugget (thimble), human alphabet and blind man's bluff. There were two more activities but we never got to do them. By the time we did all the activities it was time to go home so we all jumped onto the bus and left. I enjoyed going to Shanty town to learn about toys, I learnt a lot of new things. I very recommend going to Shantytown.
